Designing parts that are cheaper to machine

Most of the cost in a machined part is decided on the drawing.

Six changes that help

• Use standard hole sizes and thread depths

• Give inside corners a radius a real cutter can make

• Loosen tolerances that do not affect fit or function

• Avoid deep narrow pockets

• Keep walls thicker than 0.03 in where you can

• Call out one finish for the whole part
